Manchester United are in a fine run of form in the Premier League and are in high confidence after securing three points against Sheffield United. But next up for the Red Devils, an age-old rivalry awaits at Old Trafford as Manchester United host Leeds United. Marcelo Bielsa has done very well at Leeds but Solskjaer will be confident that his Red Devils will be able to face the storm.
Manchester United are with an almost fully-fit squad and have done very going forward and scoring goals. But defensively, the Red Devils have been shambolic and have conceded way more goals than the liking and even conceded two against Sheffield United. It will be expected of Solskjaer to make some changes from their last game in the Premier League against the Blades.
Let us now look at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might set his Manchester United side against Bielsa’s Leeds United at Elland Road in the Premier League.
THE 4-2-3-1
It is very likely for Manchester United to set up in a 4-2-3-1 system this weekend in the Premier League against Leeds United. There is a huge chance that Solskjaer rested the likes of Fred, McTominay and Shaw against Sheffield for the game at Elland Road. The Red Devils might take a slightly defensive approach to this game as or they might get overrun in the midfield.
The right-wing also might be a spot to consider for Solskjaer in such a system, as Greenwood barely tracks back causing problems to Wan-Bissaka. Donny Van de Beek might also be employed on the right-wing position because of his work ethic and balance of play. But the limelight will be on the Manchester United defence who will be expected to be under immense pressure throughout the game.
De Gea will surely return to the starting XI and it will also help Lindelof and Maguire, who need to get their acts right real quick.
THE 4-4-2 (DIAMOND)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used the 4-4-2 (Diamond) system very well this season with the likes of Pogba, Van de Beek, Fred, McTominay, Mata and Matic in the United squad. The diamond midfield has done well this season but it will be different ball game against Leeds. But Pogba has done very well in the last few games and it will be hard to drop him this weekend.
Van de Beek might look like a better option than Pogba but the creativity of Pogba is unparalleled. Fred and McTominay have been fantastic this season and will be relied upon as they provide a strong defensive shield for the Red Devils. Anthony Martial also looked like a different player last game and might be finally doing what he did last season, score goals.
THE 3-5-2
The 3-5-2 has been used by Solskjaer in game and tough games and Leeds might just be a game where they might use it. But last time the Red Devils used it, it backfired heavily against Leipzig in the Champions League, which saw United crash out from the competition. The game is surely going to be very exciting as both the sides are defensively fragile but very strong going forward.
