Manchester United vs Leeds United: Match Report

What a start we have on our hands!

Manchester United went off to a flyer against Leeds United as they dismantled them with a 5-1 scoreline. The first game of the new 2021/22 Premier League season has fulfilled all our expectations by their performance level.

It was a ruthless show by the Manchester United players as they went from a 1-0 scoreline at halftime to four goals in the second half.

Both the teams showed equal dominance in the first half and there were some good chances for United as well. Pogba missed the first chance when he came one on one with the Leeds goalkeeper.

But then Bruno Fernandes scored the first goal for United in this new season. It came in the 30th minute as Paul Pogba spotted Fernandes’s run and provided a wonderful assist. Fernandes did the rest by smashing the ball into the net. Meslier did get a hand but couldn’t keep it out.

The second half was electrifying as Leeds United scored the equalizer just at the start of the second half. Luke Ayling, the Leeds left-back scored a rocket from 25 yards. De Gea dived but couldn’t reach close to the sensational strike.

Manchester United didn’t get shaky but instead scored three goals within a span of eight minutes. It was Mason Greenwood who scored the second goal for United. Again it was Paul Pogba who provided the assists and an accurate ground shot by Greenwood sailed into the left corner to make it 2-1 for Manchester United.

After just two minutes, Bruno Fernandes scored the team’s third goal as he made sure that the ball goes through the crowded Leeds defence and into the back of the net. Paul Pogba was again the provider.

Manchester United’s fourth goal came in the 60th minute, it was again scored by our hero Bruno Fernandes who completed his hattrick by hitting a fine volley. Victor Lindelof provided the accurate cross to the Portuguese midfielder’s feet and he made no mistake by striking the goal straight into the center of the goal.

Fred too joined the party and he scored our fifth goal in the 68th minute. Again it was Paul Pogba who provided the assists.

So the numbers finally read as, a hattrick for Bruno Fernandes and four assists for Paul Pogba.

It was a spectacular way of starting the new season.

Our exclusive three points from the match:

Just make him sign the new contract:

This is what every Manchester United fan has been murmuring after the match. Paul Pogba turned into a goal-providing machine against Leeds as he was absolutely spot-on with his passes and crosses.

It was much of a classic Paul Pogba on display and he made several key passes, kept possession, and moved the ball really well, which helped the team block Leeds from making any counter-attacks.

In fact, Paul Pogba has already scored more assist than his entire last season.

Evidently, he has continued with the same form that he showed for France in the Euros. But, the main issue lies with his future security. Till now, he has not signed a new contract and Manchester United will be trying their best to tie the French midfielder to the club for more years.

They have already let him leave for free and they can’t afford to repeat the same mistake.

Bruno Fernandes already has his hands on the next award:

This is what, Bruno Fernandes brings to Manchester United. Goals, goals,  and many goals. You can’t keep him out even for a second and he has scored a hattrick in the very first game of this new season.

He scored everything, from penalties to free-kicks to open play goals. His positioning was superb throughout the game and he was always present in the opposition half. He read the crosses well and his finishing has been the most impressive part.

The tweets calling him ‘Penandes’ have been given the perfect answer. He scores more than you think, he scores for the team. He has already stamped his name into the Premier League player of the award list.

Spot-on tactics by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer:

Solksjaer had many important decisions to make before the Leeds clash. The proper players to use, their fitness, new signings, and reading opposition tactics were big work for the Norewiagan.

And he passed the test with flying colours. His decision to play Paul Pogba at the left-wing proved to be the X-factor behind this win. He trained his players well and made timely substitutions to make sure that the game is always in their hands.

It has been a good start for Ole Gunnar Solksajer and his boys.

Manager’s words after the match:

“I couldn’t have asked for more. You’re always a bit worried before the first game – fitness-wise have we done enough? Tactics-wise? The sessions have been geared just to this game. It’s been a fantastic day.”

What’s next:

Manchester United plays Southampton next Sunday and they will look to continue with this fine form.
