Manchester United vs Liverpool: Player Ratings

Manchester United stumbled upon their heaviest defeat of the season as they were ruthlessly dominated by a world-class Liverpool side.

Salah was the hero of the match, Firmino tormented our defence with his movements, Jota’s heavy pressing was too much to bear and Keita was owning the middle of the park. United didn’t even have a consolation to talk about and the whole bright moment was the one in which Ronaldo sweetly-struck past Alisson.

But even that was ruled offside. Paul Pogba soon saw himself sent off for his evil challenge of Naby Keita.

United’s every player failed to make an impact and in terms of rating, we can’t even give them anything more than five, as their performance doesn’t justify it.

Our Ratings:

David De Gea: 5

The United shot-stopper was a goal spectator in the entire game. He saved United on numerous occasions but he didn’t do anything to stop Liverpool’s attackers from scoring. His communication with his center-backs was also poor.

He saved Trent Alender Arnold’s thunderous shot or else it could have been even more worse for United.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 4

The English right-back was completely dominated by Milner and Jota. He was found wandering numerous times and failed to track back quickly during counter-attacks. Didn’t contribute at all in the attack down the right flank.

Victor Lindelof: 4

Was so poor during the entire 90 minutes. Poor man-marking, lazy defending, and looking completely lost in front of the lethal Liverpool trio. Salah punished him and his partner Maguire for their dreadful defending.

Harry Maguire: 3

Couldn’t give a much higher rating than this and he deserved it. Roberton Fimrino was very successful in dragging the English center-back of his position and Salah took advantage of this.

Maguire was poor against Leicester and again he failed to increase the quality of his defending. He was lacking concentration throughout the match and the fans are getting restless to see him out of the starting XI.

Luke Shaw: 4

He showed a lack of attacking intent throughout the match. The first goal came as a result of a big confusion between him and Maguire. Didn’t show his masterclass that he usually does.

Scott McTominay: 5

Committed fewer mistakes than his teammates, but failed to dominate the Liverpool midfield. His partnership with Fred looked horrific as both were pressed continuously by Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson.

Fred: 4

Gave away the ball numerous times and it seems that he doesn’t even have one good game to play for Man United. Keita made a mockery out of him and he failed to move the ball forward for the United attackers.

Bruno Fernandes: 5

Had one really good moment to score in the initial 10 minutes but he hit it wide of the post. Other than that, he was looking completely frozen down the centre and hardly created any chances for his attackers.

Mason Greenwood: 4

Looked very selfish at times and didn’t connect well with Ronaldo upfront. His usual quick runs were perfectly blocked by Konate and Robertson.

Marcus Rashford: 4

Looked off the pace during the entire match and he was lacking the finishing product. He didn’t disturb the Liverpool centre-backs with his shuttering runs.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6

Scored a wonderful goal only to be ruled offside. Other than that, his movement was quite predictable as he preferred to hide between the defenders. His positioning was well analyzed by Virgil Van Dijk.

Substitutes:

Edinson Cavani: 6

Brought some fresh legs to the already deteriorated United attack. He did hit the post in the first half.

Paul Pogba: 4

His incoming was a nightmare for the fans and the manager. Lost the ball numerous times and he was the culprit of the fifth goal as he lost the ball to Dean Henderson. Was even red carded to make it more embarrassing.
