Manchester United vs Southampton – Man United Predicted Lineups | EPL 2020-21

Manchester United are back to playing in the Old Trafford in the Premier League after a tough draw at London against Arsenal. The Red Devils welcome the Saints of Southampton up next as their chase of the league title continues as the noisy neighbours take the lead. Southampton are doing well in the league this season and should not be taken for granted as they have the capability to take all the three points from Manchester.

Taking only one point out of the possible six in the last couple of Premier League game, United will look to win against Southampton. Solskjaer will be looking to get his Red Devils back to winning ways and should get going soon. Manchester United need to pick their strongest possible XI to win the game handsomely and dominatingly.

Let us now have a look at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might set his Manchester United side up against Southampton in the Premier League game at Old Trafford.

THE 4-4-2 (DIAMOND)

The 4-4-2 (Diamond) is arguably Manchester United’s best formation this season but Solskjaer hasn’t used it a lot in the recent past. The front-two makes sense in this system as Martial has been in poor form and Rashford looks clueless on the right flank. Bruno Fernandes has looked off-colour in the last month and needs to up his game if United are to have any chance of winning the Premier League title.

Fred and McTominay have been instrumental for Manchester United this season and the Red Devils need them. The Red Devils dropped off last game after McTominay was subbed off due to a stomach spasm he suffered during the game against Arsenal.  Pogba also needs to get back to what he was doing last month and get more involved in the game and produce further up the pitch and create chances.

Edinson Cavani was guilty of missing chances last game and the Uruguayan needs to take his chances as United do not produce a lot of them.

THE 4-2-3-1

The 4-2-3-1 is a system that can be used against Southampton as their front line is quite good and will take some stopping. This system will also allow Manchester United to control the midfield in a game where they need to win. The right flank has been a major problem for the Red Devils this season as the squad doesn’t have an established right-winger other than Dan James and young Amad Diallo.

The full-backs of Manchester United have become evidently important for the side’s success as both of them play high. Luke Shaw has been a revelation this season and is currently one of the best left-backs in the Premier League with both sides of his game improving at the rate of knots. Wan-Bissaka needs to better his game going forward even though he has already improved himself this season.

THE 3-5-2

The 3-5-2 might also be an option for Solskjaer and his Red Devils as Southampton play in a flat 4-4-2 system. But it is still unlikely for Manchester United to use this formation as the Saints don’t possess a threatening front line. But Manchester United will still need to work hard to beat Southampton to get back to winning ways and challenge the title race.
