Manchester United vs Southampton Match Report | PL 20-21

Manchester United had hit a bit of a slump compared to the previous form and had managed to gain only one point from their two matches, including the shock defeat to Sheffield United before the victory against Southampton.

Manchester United came out all guns blazing as they inflicted a horrifying 9-0 defeat against the Saints as many players got on the scoresheet.

Saints were reduced to 10 men after a horrific tackle on McTominay by A Jankewitz. The Red Devils never looked back from there as they ran riot.

MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The match started out in a heaty manner as Southampton were reduced to 10 men early on in the game when A Jankewitz was sent off in the 2nd minute of normal time.

Southampton played the match on the back foot since then and Manchester United took full advantage of that. Manchester United mounted attack after attack and they never looked back. Aaron wan Bissaka opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Southampton were already two goals and a man down by the 25th minute.

The game was in cruise control but Manchester United was in no mood for mercy as they piled the pressure. Things became even worse when J Bednarek scored an own goal to take Manchester United 3 up in the game at 34 minutes.

I guess at that point we all knew that there would be only one winner. Edinson Cavani came on and recorded himself on the scoresheet in the 39th minute when he got an open header in the box.

You know Cavani isn’t missing these. Manchester United went into the half with a 4-0 lead and it felt like Che Adams almost pulled one back in the 55th minute but the goal was ruled offside by a marginal VAR decision. Anthony Martial registered two goals for himself in the 69th and 90th minute which will certainly give him a lot of confidence.

Scott McTominay got himself on the scoresheet in the 71st minute as Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot once again in the 87th minute. Everyone thought that it was over at this point but Dan James came from the bench to end the route with the ninth goal of the evening.
Southampton has now faced two defeats with a margin of nine goals in two seasons.
