Player Ratings from the latest match: Manchester United vs West Bromwich Albion
David de Gea: 8
Made an excellent save to deny Karlan Grant, a superb finger touching save. Then got a strong foot to deny Townsend in the second half. A classic David De Gea performance.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 5
United need him to be having the same influence on the team as Trent is doing for Liverpool. Lazy going forward, United need creativity from him. Not the strongest of performance.
Victor Lindelof: 6
A good average play even though he had a back problem. Marshalled the defence pretty well. Earned a well deserved clean sheet for the team.
Harry Maguire: 6
Played like a proper, strong defensive warrior. Partnership with Lindelof was on point and even provided a good breakaway for Martial. Should have been converted by the striker.
Alex Telles: 6
Certainly took time to adjust, the game seemed to be far more demanding for him. Need him to show his set-piece skills.
Nemanja Matic: 5
Here comes the Nutmeg victim. Tactically, United never needed two hardcore midfielders to protect them from this bottom-placed team, could have gone for some creativity.
Fred: 6
A neat, simple ball passing cameo by the midfielder, but nothing sublime to seal the game.
Juan Mata: 6
The first-half performance was not too good but came off well in the second half. His cross ultimately landing a penalty for United. Substituted for Cavani later on in the match.
Bruno Fernandes: 6
Always the main force for creativity going forward. Set up Martial beautifully, but got frustrated later on because of the lack of pace in the game and hence played much deeper. Got lucky that his penalty was retaken. Nevertheless gave United a much-needed victory.
Marcus Rashford: 4
The lowest rating for him because of his rusty performance. Got a glorious opportunity in the second half to seal the game, but he wasted it. A classy Rashford is much needed now.
Anthony Martial: 5
Didn’t take many goal scoring opportunities, got frustrated at times. Should have had a killer impact in the game going forward. Both the Strikers were very shaggy for United.
Subs
Edinson Cavani: 4
Destroyed a wonderful chance. Didn’t give much impact.
Donny van de Beek: 5
Another match, another bench-warming scenario for him. Didn’t have much time to make an impact.
Scott McTominay: 5
Replaced Fred for some defensive display.
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 6
Could have played a creative midfielder rather than going for a defensive approach by playing Matic and Fred together. Substituted Mata For Cavani which did appear as an interesting move, but came off with no reward.
