Manchester United’s great away winning form in the Premier League has finally ended as the Red Devils shared points with Leicester City. The Red Devils missed a lot of chances in the game which cost them with a couple of points and also the second spot in the Premier League table. Next up for Solskjaer’s men stand Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side who have been doing great for yet another season.
The United boss will be expected to make some changes to the side that played against the Foxes. Victor Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka might both miss the Wolves game with injury scare to the defenders. Till now, Solskjaer has done well in the Premier League this season but Wolves have always caught him numb.
Let us now have a look at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might set his Red Devils side up against Espirito Santo and his Wolves side.
THE 4-4-2 (DIAMOND)
The 4-4-2 (Diamond) system and formation has worked wonders at Manchester United this season with four men in the midfield, controlling the game. The likes of Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe will be expected to move into the starting XI again with Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka’s injuries. Both the players are very quick and will fit in well into the Manchester United team with their qualities.
Luke Shaw has played superbly well this season and Solskjaer is very happy with his progress in the team. Either of McTominay or Fred are likely to play the game and there is even a chance of both the players playing. Paul Pogba didn’t start the last game and is thus likely to start against Wolves after some great performances which have made him into one of the fan favourites again.
Rashford and Martial finally have some competition, with Edinson Cavani coming good for the Red Devils after his signing in the summer transfer window.
THE 4-2-3-1
The 4-2-3-1 has worked very well for Solskjaer at Manchester United but he hasn’t used it a lot this season in the Premier League. In such a system, Fred and McTominay have been heavily used as the midfield pivot to great use. De Gea has been great in between the sticks for the Red Devils this season with competition from Dean Henderson.
Bruno Fernandes is arguably the best player in the Premier League currently and will take some stopping, which he will not like. The Portuguese magnifico is the playmaker of United and is one of the hardest workers in the side in and off the ball. The front four of Fernandes, Martial, Rashford and Cavani looks menacing as it is a mix of pace, brute force and clinical precision.
THE 3-5-2
The 3-5-2 has also been used by the Red Devils but they haven’t been able to do it well in the recent past. It is unlikely for Solskjaer to implement this formation against Wolves even though they use the same system and formation without Raul Jimenez. In the tough crunch of games, United have done well till now and need to finish the year off with a victory to round off a good year.
