Manchester United will have to pay a record fee to land Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez

Manchester United will have to pay a record fee to land Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez who is expected to command a £105 million price tag following his stellar displays at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Fernandez was one of the standout performers for the champions Argentina with his run of form in the centre of the park catching the eye of a host of Europe’s top clubs including Eric ten Hag’s Manchester United.

According to a report from The Sun, it is claimed that United, who are joined in the chase for the 21-year-old midfield talent by arch-rivals Liverpool, would be forced to shell out a £105 million fee to trigger his release clause.

It would be a record transfer fee in the Premier League should either of the two suitors step up their efforts to land the Benfica starlet’s signature with Fernandez’s value skyrocketing since his World Cup displays which earned him the Young Player of the Tournament award.

Newcastle United were also credited with an interest in signing Fernandez but the manager Eddie Howe sounded out concern over his hefty valuation, suggesting that the Saudi-backed Magpies could be withdrawing themselves from the fray for the player.
