Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that he is ready to delve into the January transfer market to bolster his current squad.
18-year-old forward Mason Greenwood scored a superb brace as the Red Devils built on consecutive 2-1 wins over Tottenham and Manchester City in the Premier League as well as breezing past AZ Alkmaar 4-0 to top their Europa League group.
Solskjaer has leaned on youngster Greenwood and other promising academy products that are emerging from the club, much to the delight of United fans, but he is keen to deepen his squad even further in the upcoming January transfer window and could make a few signings that could help the club achieve their goals for the season.
United’s transfer board came under heavy criticism when they decided to offload big-name forwards Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window without purchasing any replacements. But Solskjaer has indicated in strengthening other departments as well in the winter transfer market.
While speaking to reporters, the 46-year-old stated the clubs desire to purchase players in different departments, “We are looking to strengthen in many positions, If you look at our squad compared to the others, we are getting there but we still need two or three players to have enough numbers to rotate through a long season. So we’ll see what we sign.”
Irrespective of who comes in the team, Solskjaer has insisted that Greenwood will be utilized on a frequent basis as he added, “He played against Tottenham and was class. I’m not afraid of playing him in the Premier League, Not at all. But it’s about sharing the minutes and finding the right minutes for him. Of course, he’s ready to play in the Premier League.”
