Manchester United willing to pay £60 million for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United is expected to spend approximately £60 million in order to secure the signing of Chelsea star midfielder Mason Mount during the ongoing transfer window.

The Red Devils have identified Mount as a key target as manager Erik ten Hag looks to upgrade the squad’s creative players.

Chelsea has rejected an initial offer of £40 million from Man United for the English star, but it seems that the club is planning to make a renewed attempt to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.

While the Blues values their academy graduate at £70 million, United is expected to offer around £60 million for the versatile player.

Mount has primarily played as an attacking midfielder for Chelsea but is also capable of operating in the number eight position.

In the previous season, Christian Eriksen was United’s regular starter in the role Mount could potentially fill. However, Eriksen’s lack of pace was often exposed by opposing players, prompting United to seek a player like Mount who can offer more dynamism and speed in that position.

Fred has been preferred over Eriksen due to his superior work rate, but the Brazilian midfielder lacks technical quality and has been inconsistent in his performances.

As a result, Ten Hag has reportedly identified Mount as the solution to strengthen the team’s midfield. It wouldn’t be surprising if the club hierarchy supports the manager’s decision by making an improved bid for Mount.

Chelsea is likely to accept a lower fee than their initial asking price for their prized asset. They are keen to make sales before the financial year ends on June 30 in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Interestingly, Man United’s pursuit of Mount could indirectly benefit Chelsea. The London club is currently in a strong position to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion, a player valued at over £80 million.
