As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United defender Di’Shon Bernard is scheduled to sign a loan deal with League One club Portsmouth today.
The 22-year-old was eager to leave the club on a temporary basis in order to get more playing time. He has now decided to move to Fratton Park for the remainder of the season.
All parties are optimistic that a deal will be completed by the deadline of 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, so Bernard is scheduled to have a medical with Portsmouth on that day. Bernard wants to play regular football from now until the end of the season after spending the majority of time away from the senior squad.
The young academy graduate made an impression while out on loan with Salford and Hull City in the past, but now that he stays low on the United’s priority list, it won’t help his development to play for the youth teams.
Although it is believed that the center-back would have preferred to move to a Championship club this month, he is now ready to move down a level after receiving guarantees of playing time at Portsmouth.
Bernard made his comeback as a member of United’s training squad for their camp in Spain last month. He played in the second half against Cadiz.
Since his United debut against Astana in 2019, he has not made a first-team appearance. Although Bernard trained with the senior team in advance of this week’s League Cup victory over Charlton, he was not selected for the starting lineup.
The loan move will help Bernard discover his potential and make an impression away from United.
