Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood set to join La Liga side Getafe

According to The Athletic, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is poised for a loan move to La Liga side Getafe.

Last week, Man United confirmed Greenwood’s departure from Old Trafford following a six-month internal investigation.

Greenwood’s career took a significant hit in January 2022 when explicit images and videos related to the alleged abuse of a young woman made headlines.

Charges including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm were dropped in February this year, and Greenwood has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Lazio had considered signing the 21-year-old but couldn’t finalize the deal before the Italian transfer window closed.

Now, it seems the English international is set to head to Spain in an effort to revive his career. If Getafe fails to complete the transfer in time, Greenwood may need to explore other options.

Saudi Arabia remains a potential destination, as the Saudi Pro League transfer window is open until September 7. Additionally, Turkish club Besiktas is also mentioned as a potential destination for the young player.

In other United news, the club has announced the signing of midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina, marking their final arrival of this summer transfer window.

Earlier today, they welcomed Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce and secured Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham. Additionally, veteran defender Jonny Evans signed a one-year contract.
