Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to strengthen their squad with a strategic shift towards acquiring Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, following the successful completion of their deal for Leny Yoro.
The 18-year-old defender from Lille has agreed to a five-year contract with United, marking a significant investment in one of the brightest young talents in European football.
The deal, reported to be worth an initial £52 million, underscores United’s commitment to reinforcing their defensive lineup.
The signing of Yoro adds to Joshua Zirkzee’s joining from Bologna. Overall, the team’s roster have improved. But, there is more work to do.
Ugarte, agreed to the move to Old Trafford in the past and also rejected Chelsea in the process.
Manchester United have also tracked him and talks have been ongoing since last month.
Ugarte made a high-profile move to PSG from Sporting Lisbon for £51 million last year. However, recent reports indicate that PSG might be willing to sell him for approximately £38 million, as they are closing in on a deal for Benfica’s Joao Neves.
The 19-year-old Neves, who has also caught United’s eye, appears to prefer a move to Paris, which could impact Ugarte’s future at the French club.
The potential arrival of Neves at PSG could further diminish Ugarte’s role within Luis Enrique’s squad, making him more available for a move.
