Manchester United FC finished last season late because of the club’s participation in the semi-final of the Europa League. Last season was very long for the entire side and the squad returned to training only on the 2nd of September. It is now being reported that Manchester United will play their only pre-season friendly against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Manchester United ended last season on 16th of August and will start the next season on 19th of September. This means that United have got only 34 days between the seasons, with Nations League also involved. The Red Devils have been given an extra week off because of their involvement in the latter stages of the Europa League and will thus start their Premier League campaign next week.
In his recent talk with the BBC 5 live, Solskjaer said: “This preparation is very different to what we normally have. With all the games we had in the Europa League we almost had to take that as our pre-season, then we had to give the boys a few weeks off and now we are getting ready.”
The Norwegian also added that “It is going to be about match time and getting their sharpness back. I don’t anticipate too many players will have lost too much in those weeks that they have had off because they have always been good at looking after themselves.” The game against Villa will be important for everyone to get in minutes before the Premier League.
