In the final game of the pre-season tour, United registered a 2-1 win over Real Madrid. We all know the on-pitch story, but what happened off-the field is unknown. There has been viral videos of Asensio calling out De Gea. While the players make way to the field, Asensio can be heard shouting ‘Karius Karius Karius’ to De Gea in order unnerve the so told Best Goalkeeper in the world.
Karius has been trolled since the night of the Champions League final for making two costly errors against Real which ended up costing them a 3-1 loss and also the UEFA Glory. This mistake has already cost Karius with Jurgen Klopp ready to spend a world record fee for a new Goalkeeper. Alisson is to play as first-choice of Liverpool instead of Karius.
Same was the case with De Gea when he missed an easy shot from the boot of Portugese maestro Christiano Ronaldo, the match which ended up as a 3-3 draw. And the United’s first choice keeper has already faced a lot of criticism for allowing the ball slip through his fingers. The Spaniard did not have the best of the world cups and is determined to bounce back.
His fellow mate Asensio may have tried to unnerve the beast but was unsuccessful in doing so, with De Gea answering the taunts with a sweet gesture hugging the Madrid-man in the tunnel.
A good performance this summer will be a perfect answer for all his critics and a perfect gift for all the United fans.
