Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has explained the reason why he did not join Everton in the summer transfer window and he could depart in the January transfer window if he isn’t given regular football.
Rojo joined the red half of Manchester back in 2014 from Sporting CP in a €20 million deal and has made 73 appearances for the Red Devils over the course of five years. The Argentine defender has not been able to nail down a starting berth at Old Trafford and has been pushed further down the pecking order following the arrival of Harry Maguire.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that he wanted to get rid of Rojo in the summer transfer window but the club was forced to keep hold of him due to the lack of preferable suitors. The Red Devils found it easier to keep hold of the 29-year-old instead of selling him to a reputed English club which could come back to haunt them.
However, Rojo has explained that he will decide to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window if he doesn’t get regular football. While speaking to an Argentine news outlet he said, “I had the possibility of Everton, but by decisions of the club or the manager it wasn’t possible. Now I have to fight until December and if it doesn’t work out, I will try to leave. I talked to Scaloni, he told me that he was happy because in the pre-season I had played many games, that I looked good and that’s why he called me, but that I had to play. The qualifiers and the Copa America are coming and I want to be part of that. I don’t want to be out again, I want to exhaust all the possibilities and compete to be here.”
