Injury Update

Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw doubtful to face Sevilla in the first-leg clash

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United stars Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are doubtful to play against Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinal match at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will welcome the Andalusian team at Old Trafford on Thursday, and manager Erik Ten Hag must wait to get an update on these players’ injury status before the game.

Shaw suffered a hamstring injury last week against Brentford, and it is uncertain if the English full-back will be able to get over it against Sevilla. Meanwhile, Rashford experienced groyne pain during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Everton. Ten Hag criticised the Premier League and their hectic schedule for their role in this injury.

The Dutch manager also said that it might take 24 to 36 hours to determine the extent of the injury, but that we should soon have a clearer idea of Rashford’s situation.

Thus, it is likely that Shaw and Rashford won’t be available against Sevilla, but United will benefit greatly from Casemiro’s return to action following his domestic suspension.

Due to the suspension, the Brazilian was absent from all four of the most recent games. The player, who is valued at €50 million, ought to be fired up to face off against a team he played against in La Liga.

Sevilla has the record for most victories in the European competition, having claimed the crown six times. Despite this, given their different league records, the Red Devils should start the quarterfinal match as favourites.

United has been in the top four since the start of the season and they have a good chance of making the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Sevilla has been involved in an unexpected relegation battle in La Liga. They are only five points above La Liga’s relegation zone.

Thus, United could be the favourites to defeat the Andalusian team at Old Trafford. Shaw and Rashford could miss the game, giving Tyrell Malacia and Anthony Martial the chance to step up.
