Marcus Rashford is currently in the form of his life at Manchester United. The 25-year-old scored the first goal against Nottingham Forest in just six minutes during Sunday night’s first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal.
He took the ball from his own half and ran forward, smashing it past the goalkeeper. Erik ten Hag was impressed by his striker’s great run of form and praised him for his goal in a crucial semi-final tie.
As reported by the Guardian, the Dutch boss said:
“There are more players who are playing really well but I am happy with Marcus, his performance and his development. From the start of the season he is growing and keeps doing that. We have to keep his process going and if he is in that mood and spirit, I think he is unstoppable.”
Sam Surridge helped the Tricky Trees make a strong recovery and appear to have levelled the scoreline. After a VAR review, the 24-year-old’s attempt was disallowed for offside.
Steve Cooper’s team took a further hit just before the break when Wout Weghorst scored his first goal for United by blasting off the rebound and into the roof of the net. Bruno Fernandes’ late third almost ensured United’s advancement to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.
After a poor 2021–22 season, Rashford’s future at Old Trafford was doubtful. In 32 appearances last season in all competitions, he only scored five times.
Paris Saint-Germain, who were willing to offer him a hefty contract, were rumoured to be interested in signing the England international. He appears to be staying put, though, as he is negotiating a new five-year contract with the Red Devils. Rashford has had a fantastic season, scoring 18 goals in 29 games across all competitions.
Rashford has established himself as a key member of United’s starting lineup and might make the difference in their quest for a trophy this year.
