Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford has stated that there is a sense of togetherness at the club which wasn’t there around two years ago when Jose Mourinho was in charge.
The Red Devils kicked off their Europa League Group L campaign with a stuttering 1-0 victory thanks to 17-year-old young sensation Mason Greenwood at home to Astana on Thursday. The teenage forward scored his first senior goal and became the youngest ever player to score for United in Europe to lead Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team past the Kazakh visitors in at Old Trafford.
United was far from their best as Solskjaer named a youthful eleven with a bunch of academy players on the team sheet, but English striker Marcus Rashford was happy with what he saw at in the performance against Astana.
While speaking to reporters after the game, the 21-year-old Rashford said that after Solskjaer’s appointment last year in December, there is togetherness at Manchester United which wasn’t present under Mourinho’s reign.
He explained, “It wasn’t the best performance but there was a lot of good stuff, they’re tough to break down, If I look back to two years ago, I don’t think the team had the togetherness to come through a game like that. Everyone expects it to be easy but the opposition has come to win so it’s always tough.”
Mourinho was sacked last season after a string of poor results in the Premier League and the Portuguese boss was succeeded by the 46-year-old Norwegian Solskjaer.
