Ex-Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has taken a massive swipe at Red Devils transfer board for their inability to keep managers at the club.
The Belgian superstar joined the Red Devils back in 2014 and was David Moyes’ first signing for Manchester United when the Scotsman took charge of the club. But Fellaini was always one of the scapegoats during the Moyes era for his below-par performances and was never a fan favorite. The 31-year-old became one of the more prominent players under Louis Van Gaal’s two-year tenure at Manchester United due to the Dutchman’s game plan.
And under Jose Mourinho’s ear at Manchester United, Fellaini was used as a completely different attacking option before he joined the Far East Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng in January 2019 failing to become a regular for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making only one appearance for the Norwegian.
United are currently struggling in the Premier League as they sit in 12th position on the League table with only nine points from eight games until now, but Fellaini has admitted that the transfer board is one of the main reasons to blame for the club’s downfall.
While speaking to the Daily Mail, the Belgian, who played under four different managers at Old Trafford but stated that the club should give managers a bit more time to implement their philosophies, “They brought in [David] Moyes, they didn’t give him time. They brought in [Louis] Van Gaal, they gave him two years and we started to do some things, he won the cup, but after that, they sacked the manager because they want to win quickly. He wanted to build his team but after two years and a half, they decided to sack him because the results were not there. That’s the problem, they have to find a solution together. A manager like Van Gaal, tactically is very strong and a lot of experience and they sacked him They brought in one of the best managers in the world in Jose Mourinho, he wanted to build a team and they sacked him.”
Fellaini further went on to explain that Mourinho should have been given some more time and claimed that he does not know what lies in the future for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, “For me the club was too quick to sack Jose [Mourinho] because a manager like that comes and he needs a lot of players to do his own philosophy. It’s not easy to build a team at that time, you need more than two years. Mourinho, for the first season, he did amazingly, he improved the team, won things. Okay, the second season, was a bit more difficult, but he tried and did his best to help the team. I don’t know what they will do with Ole. Now you have a new manager, they wanted young players and that’s what happens when you play with just young players – they will be up and down, up and down, that’s football.”
