Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that 17-year-old Mason Greenwood is a better natural finisher than Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
The Red Devils had a fantastic start to the new Premier League season as they managed to hammer fierce rivals Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford last weekend. A brace from Marcus Rashford and goals from Anthony Martial as well as a late goal from Daniel James gave United the perfect platform to earn three points.
But despite the most impressive showings against Frank Lampard’s Blues, the 46-year-old Norwegian believes that he did not field his best striker. While speaking to reporters after the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers Solskjaer said that he wants Rashford and Martial to improve their game because Greenwood is a better natural finished than the two.
He explained that teenage sensation Greenwood has a knack of getting into the right positions at the right time which Martial and Rashford need to learn, “They’ve [Martial and Rashford] still got a way to go because Mason’s more of a natural finisher than them two, I want both of them to be more scoring easy goals because you don’t have to work too hard to score them, just a little bit of movement. It was a great counter-attack (against Chelsea), great runs by Anthony and I think maybe he felt he should have got the first pass, it went a little bit wideout to Jesse (Lingard) and he stopped. But then he got himself back in a good position and even though he might have mishit it, it went in, so if you can get five extra goals like this every season, both of them, that’s 10”
