Mason Greenwood set for new court hearing next week

Mason Greenwood’s bid to extend his bail will allegedly be heard in court next week.

The Manchester United striker is still being investigated by the police amid allegations that he raped and abused a young woman.

According to the Daily Mail, a hearing will be held next Wednesday at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court. Greenwood is not expected to attend the hearing, which will not be held in open court.

There won’t be any media or public access to the hearing, and Greenwood isn’t expected to attend, so it sounds like this will be more of a formality and procedural than providing any actual insight into the case’s result.

There has been no further word on his United status, but the club has announced that he will not be allowed to train with his teammates or be eligible for selection, so it appears that a resolution will take some time.

After photographs and videos were shared online of his assault, the 20-year-old was detained in January. Greater Manchester Police also questioned him on suspicion of making death threats to her girlfriend.

He was released on conditional bond after three nights in a police cell, which was then extended until mid-June. Mason Greenwood was first detained on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman and has since been suspended from continuing his sporting activities.

Greenwood’s sponsorship with Nike has been cancelled since his arrest. He’s also been booted from games including FIFA 22, eFootball, and Pro Evolution Soccer.
