As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Mason Greenwood was added to Manchester United’s most recent Premier League squad roster after the allegations against the 21-year-old were dropped.
On Thursday, the Greater Manchester Police declared that the striker’s criminal case had been closed. The forward was accused of trying to rape his girlfriend, acting in a dominating and abusive manner, and assaulting her.
United and Greenwood both issued statements on the same day confirming that the team would look internally to “consider next steps” after the incident. Since then, the player has been added to the team’s amended 2022–2023 Premier League roster list. After the January transfer window closed, Premier League teams were required to submit their amended roster lists.
Greenwood played his final match for United against West Ham on January 22 of last year. The English player was detained on January 30, almost a week later, and the club has suspended him ever since.
Since making his first-team debut in 2019, the striker has amassed 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 appearances for the team.
Greenwood will continue to miss practises and games as United conducts its own investigation, the club announced on Thursday.
Erik ten Hag also refused to speak on his matter, and he didn’t want to add anything new to the ongoing Greenwood scenario.
