As revealed by the club’s official website, Manchester United completed the signing of Mason Mount on Wednesday morning, and he has been presented with the prestigious number seven shirt at the club.
Mount will follow in the footsteps of football legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham, who have previously donned the iconic number.
Following Ronaldo’s departure from Man United midway through last season, the iconic number seven shirt became vacant once again.
As a result, there was speculation about who would take on the prestigious number. Alejandro Garnacho was one of the candidates considered for the shirt and even expressed his desire for the number through various posts on social media.

Speculation had surrounded Garnacho’s potential acquisition of the number seven squad shirt, especially after the Argentine player signed a new long-term contract with United in the previous month.
However, Mount has been granted the honour of wearing the iconic number for the upcoming season.
This decision was made by manager Erik ten Hag early in the discussions with Mount, indicating the high-value United places on the midfielder and highlighting his pivotal role in the team’s starting lineup for the upcoming season.
Mount becomes United’s first signing of the summer, with Ten Hag prioritizing his arrival due to his admiration for the player since his loan spell at Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands.
