As revealed by the Manchester Evening News, Lewis Mount, the brother of Mason Mount, has criticised talkSPORT for sharing a social media post that targeted Mason after his Premier League debut for Manchester United on Monday.
The 24-year-old midfielder moved to the Red Devils from Chelsea for £55 million earlier in the summer and was included in the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
While the entire team struggled against the Midlands club, Mason’s performance was not particularly weak.
However, talkSPORT tweeted that he did not manage to create chances, deliver crosses, win tackles, or aerial duels, which angered Lewis Mount.
Mount’s brother was deeply unhappy with the radio station’s actions, and he used Instagram to express his frustration towards them. He said:
“I have tried to let this go all day, but honestly, shame on you talkSPORT. These players, no, these people get enough abuse without you adding fuel to the fire.”
“A reminder that he has had a very successful 18-year career in football, and is a good, kind, human being, more than I can say for some of your ‘reporters’.”
During Matchday 1, a lot of focus was on players debuting for their new clubs, and unfortunately, Mount ended up being unfairly singled out.
He certainly wasn’t the weakest player on the field, considering Wolverhampton Wanderers posed challenges to Man United and deserved at least a draw for their efforts.

Nevertheless, the Red Devils secured a crucial victory, largely due to Raphael Varane’s header in the 76th minute.
Looking ahead, they aim to improve their performance as they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Mount is a valuable addition to their midfield. While he didn’t deliver a stellar performance against the Wolves, coach Erik ten Hag is expected to place him in the starting lineup for the match against Spurs.
