Matt Judge resigns as Manchester United’s director of football negotiations

The Director of Football Negotiations at Manchester United, Matt Judge has resigned from his position. This is another step ahead as the club continues to build for the future.

Manchester United has had an absolutely disastrous season on the field, but things off the field have been the focus of much criticism for years.

Last year, the club’s participation in the European Super League and subsequent collapse broke their back, with then-executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward stepping down as a result.

And now, Matt Judge has departed the club, according to The Athletic, and will not be involved in any summer transfers. Judge is thought to have been involved in contract and transfer negotiations at Manchester United since 2014.

Following the club’s structural changes, Judge was said to be thinking about his future in recent weeks. Ed Woodward’s departure in April is said to have influenced his decision to retire.

Also, Manchester United’s chief scout Jim Lawlor and head of scouting Marcel Bout have already moved out, as the club aims to rebuild from the base.

United will replace Judge ‘soon,’ according to James Ducker of the Telegraph, and will also appoint a deputy football director, with Monaco’s Paul Mitchell being connected with the club.

Rangnick is said to have urged the club to sign Mitchell. He has built a strong reputation for recruitment during his time at Southampton and Spurs, as well as his more recent responsibilities at RB Leipzig and Monaco.

Mitchell has been seen with Rangnick at a few Manchester United academy games this season, although he has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.

The fans of Manchester United are often quick to blame the players and manager for the team’s decline, yet the issues can be deep-seated within the organization. For an underperforming team, a thorough change of the entire board and coaching staff is a step in the right direction.
