McClaren: United has sent a warning to other teams by signing Sancho

Manchester United has sent a warning to the rest of the Premier League teams with their high-profile move to sign Jadon Sancho, says Steve McClaren.

Former Manchester United assistant and England manager Steve McClaren feels Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men would now be able to handle an imposing attacking unit despite the fact that there are still a few calls for them to sign another striker.

Sancho has been spot on for Dortmund and it pretty surprising that no other teams tried to sign him which actually paved an open win for Manchester United.

Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have agreed to a deal to move Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford, which is worth around £73million and is expected to be wrapped up after his contribution in Euro 2020. United is ready to settle the transfer after they failed to complete the deal last year due to Dortmund’s sky-high demands.

Last season, the 21-year-old turned into the first Englishman to get 10 assists for three straight seasons in Europe’s top five leagues since former Manchester United star David Beckham way back in 2001. Without a doubt, just Thomas Muller (48) and Lionel Messi (43) have provided more assists at that top-level since the beginning of the 2018-19 season than Sancho (41).

Jadon Sancho was also given his first start of the competition for England by Gareth Southgate soon after his deal was announced with Manchester United. Manchester United won the treble during McClaren’s time at the club and he demands they presently have the quality to go for all the trophies.

As reported by bein Sports, Steve McClaren said: “I say it’s a marker for the rest of the league. They’ve chased Sancho for a while and he just adds to the attacking line-up that they’ve already got.  Yes, okay, they need a striker, everybody says that, but you also need speed on the wings and some creativity. They have got Mason Greenwood, they have got Marcus Rashford and they have got Daniel James. Now they have Sancho, they are going to be in everything. Yes, you need to keep clean sheets, you need to do that. But also, to win tournaments, to win trophies, you need to be good on the ball. You need to be a threat and you need a front four that can terrorize the opponents.  Imagine now you have got Rashford, Sancho, Greenwood, you have got Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba behind, there is some creativity there, they have got to win soon.”

Sancho’s signing has truly been a signature signing for United. Alongside, Cavani and Rashford he will form a deadly trio at Manchester United. Bruno and Pogba will further help him to create more chances for the team.

Manchester United will certainly go all out in attack next season as we await to see that how many assists and goals do Jadon Sancho adds to his tally.
