Michael Edwards’s links to Manchester United labelled as ‘pure fiction’

After 11 great years with Liverpool, Michael Edwards resigned from his role as the Red’s director of football this summer. He has since become a man in demand, although speculations tying him to Manchester United have been called as ‘pure fiction.

When Edwards’ tenure as Liverpool’s sporting director came to an end this summer, he intended to take a break from his duties for some time.

While Chelsea tried to lure him to Stamford Bridge as the club’s new sporting director, it hasn’t stopped clubs from testing his determination. The Blues have been searching far and wide for a sporting director but they are yet to finalize a solution.

Meanwhile, Edwards is still being linked to a number of teams, most recently Manchester United and it was said that the Old Trafford side is ready to offer him a huge lucrative offer. Currently, John Murtough has been given the role as United’s sporting director but signing Edwards would be a big boost for the club and a major upgrade on their current options.

Even though there should have been enough reason to rule out these rumours, many believed that it may be true since it has been reported by some top websites.

Since then, Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy has stated that any rumours of an impending agreement between United and Edwards for the upcoming season are “pure fiction.”

Edwards’ skill in the transfer market is undoubtedly music to the ears of many.

However, according to Reddy, Edwards’ departure from Liverpool was not accompanied by any “contractual restrictions” that would have prevented him from beginning a new position right away.

It would take a huge offer to sign the former Reds sporting director and United would need to offer a deal similar to Chelsea if they want to lure him to Old Trafford.

For the time being, Edwards is enjoying his vacation. Only time will tell about his next destination, although Liverpool fans will hope that he doesn’t join a direct rival team.
