Middlesbrough keen to recruit United legend Michael Carrick as their next manager

Championship side Middlesbrough are considering recruiting Manchester United legend Michael Carrick as their next manager.

The former midfielder took the position as the Interim manager at Old Trafford as soon as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired from his position as United manager in 2021.

He managed the team for three games. United sandwiched a draw at Stamford Bridge with victories over Villarreal and Arsenal, which contributed to Carrick’s stellar record.

It was anticipated that Carrick would stay in the dugout with Ralf Rangnick, but the former England player chose to leave the theatre of dreams.

Although it’s unclear if he’s been asked about managing a side since leaving United, there are now rumours that Middlesbrough is prepared to give him a path back into management.

According to the Sun, the struggling Championship team is looking to speak with Carrick about their vacant manager position after Chris Wilder was fired.

Middlesbrough recently defeated Birmingham to climb out of the relegation spots and is presently placed at the 18th position in the league table.

According to the report, owner Steve Gibson is eager to learn about the possibility of Carrick taking the position permanently.

There are clearly additional requirements that need to be addressed, but Carrick’s brief time in control of United demonstrated that he has the tactical acumen to thrive as a manager.

Championship teams are typically more likely to hire up-and-coming managers with little to no experience, but it can be harmful if you work in a toxic environment. Under very challenging conditions, another former United player, Wayne Rooney performed admirably at Derby County.
