Mourinho has his say on Dean Henderson

Graeme Souness reveals that Jose Mourinho told his Sky Sports colleagues that Dean Henderson should have been introduced to the Manchester United squad two years ago.


He said on Sky Sports: “I think he’s a big personality, I think he’s full of himself, which I love.
“Jose Mourinho works with us and told us that he feels he should’ve been in the team a couple of years ago. I love that about a player, if they’re full of themselves – then, great – as long as they can back it up.”


Manchester United has experienced a lot of inconsistency at the back as their defence has been exposed at crucial junctures in the season which has cost them seriously in recent times.

De Gea who has been a long-time veteran at the club has also come under the scanner due to his recent performances after he himself had set the benchmark for goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Dean Henderson has been called back from his sensational loan spell at Sheffield United where he was a pivotal part of bringing them from the Championship to the Premier League.


Chris Wilder and his team are already feeling the void that has been created by his departure as they languish at the bottom of the table this season and chances of survival looking very bleak for them at the moment.

Dean Henderson is slowly being introduced to the Manchester United squad as they are preparing a path for him into the first team. The inclusion of Dean Henderson initially had a positive impact on the Spanish international.


He was in fine form but he has again slipped up on several instances and people have been questioning whether he is still worthy of the No 1 spot at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is known for his candour in such moments and it is quite possible that this may just be mind games.

His performance against Everton and Sheffield United has brought him under renewed scrutiny.
