According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Manchester United are targeting Lyon forward Moussa Dembele following Erling Braut Haaland’s move to Borussia Dortmund earlier this week.
The Red Devils looked in pole position to sign Norwegian teenage sensation Haaland in the January transfer window but the negotiations fell apart as the 20-time Premier League champions refused to comply with the demands of the player’s representatives, including those of agent Mino Raiola and the transfer broke down. And now, having missed out on signing the 19-year-old attacker, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Lyon striker Moussa Dembele’s signing his number one priority for the winter transfer window.
The French attacker has been on United’s radar for a long time now and Solskajer is keen on bringing him to Old Trafford to bolster his options for the front line. Dembele has been thoroughly impressive for Lyon this season as he has already scored 10 goals in 18 appearances in Ligue 1 attracting interest from several suitors across the European continent.
And having lost out on Haaland after the star forward made the move to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, United have started to look out for alternatives to add a goalscorer in the transfer market to take away some of the pressure from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. The red half of Manchester has failed to sign a replacement for Belgian attacker Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window since his move to Inter Milan and since then is in the transfer market in the hope to find a striker who fits in their attack perfectly.
Even Alexis Sanchez’s departure in the summer on loan meant that United was short on options in their attacking department.
