Manchester United faced one of the club’s toughest decision in their history when they had to select Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement. The United board under Ferguson’s recommendation chose David Moyes as their next manager and tied him with a seven-year contract. In his latest interview with Goal.com, Moyes talked about how close he thought he was to signing Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
David Moyes had a forgettable tenure at Manchester United as he was removed from his duties midway in his first season. It was also reported that Moyes did not get his players in the transfer window and only got Fellaini, which wasn’t enough for him to save his job. The Scotsman tried to sign Gareth Bale in the transfer window but failed.
In his recent interview, Moyes said: “Gareth Bale was probably the first name I thought of when I got the job. I thought Gareth Bale was a Manchester United player. He was the right type. United have a great history of wide players with George Best up to Ryan Giggs and a whole lot of other brilliant ones in between.”
Gareth Bale joined Real Madrid later that summer despite being linked to the Red Devils heavily. David Moyes was heavily criticized for the results and the gameplay used at Old Trafford was replaced by Ryan Giggs who was the interim manager. Now Moyes is the manager of West Ham and is doing a moderate job at London.
