In an effort to find a successor for Kalidou Koulibaly, Napoli has reportedly contacted Manchester United about a possible move for center-back Eric Bailly.
Calcimercato reported that the Italian club is on the verge of losing Koulibaly to Chelsea, and they have been quick to enquire about the 28-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford.
The Ivorian defender had been eager to stay and compete for a spot in Erik ten Hag’s plans for next season, but it’s thought that the Red Devils are willing to sell Bailly. Although he put in a fine display against Liverpool on Tuesday, his injury record seems to be the major sign of concern.
Eric Bailly was the club’s first signing under Jose Mourinho, and the Ivorian played in the majority of matches during his first campaign at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old center-back has fallen down the United squad’s pecking order due to several injuries he has sustained over the course of his six-season career, which have prevented him from playing in 98 games for the Red Devils.
Although Bailly is a superb defender, the Red Devils would be better off getting rid of him because he is prone to injuries and makes more than £4 million annually.
Manchester United are close to signing Lisandro Martinez as they are set to submit a second bid for the defender. It is expected that Ajax is ready to consider offers in the region of £60m.
