Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that despite continued interest from Manchester United, the defending Serie A champions will not sell star striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
The club won its first Serie A championship since Diego Maradona’s era 33 years ago thanks to the 24-year-old’s crucial equaliser away at Udinese on Thursday night.
The Italian team has had a standout season, making it to the last eight of the Champions League for the first time ever. The Nigerian striker contributed the most with five goals in just six games in UCL.
Therefore, it makes sense that Osimhen has caught the attention of prominent European teams this season, even if Napoli manager Aurelio De Laurentiis has ruled out any possible transfer.
The president revealed that the club will not sell their star player after being crowned Italian champions for the first time in over three decades. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“I will not sell Victor Osimhen this summer – no way.”
Osimhen will be looking forward to adding more numbers to his 22 Serie A goals by scoring against Fiorentina on Sunday night in Naples.
The Nigerian striker has been the crown jewel for Napoli this year, as evidenced by his outstanding 27-goal tally. He has scored 55 goals in 96 games since joining the Serie A champions in July 2020.
Osimhen refused to discuss his future after Thursday night’s 1-1 tie with Udinese.
