Erik ten Hag is set to make Antony his first summer signing as he closes on to a switch to Manchester United. He is well aware of the Ajax playmaker’s talent and will raid his former club to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.
United is expected to confirm Ten Hag’s hiring as the club’s next permanent manager, and the Dutchman will aim to pick players from Ajax as he plans for a squad overhaul. Antony remains high on the wishlist as Ten Hag is a strong admirer of the young attacker.
Since joining Ajax from Sao Paulo in 2020, the 22-year-old has scored 12 goals and supplied 10 assists in all competitions this season.
According to the Sun, the Red Devils are interested in a move for up to £50 million for a player who is familiar with Ten Hag’s style and who can help the club fix its right-wing problem.
Antony joined Ajax as a substitute for Hakim Ziyech and has since grown into one of the most intriguing young stars in Dutch football, gaining nine caps for Brazil since making his senior debut in 2021.
Ten Hag will be part of the group that flies to Qatar for the World Cup later this year, and he is eager to finalize a deal as soon as possible to minimize the possibility of his value rising as the tournament progresses.
With Marcus Rashford running through a patchy form and Anthony Elanga showing little progress, the club will need to find long-term replacements.
The club is also looking into other alternatives if in case Ajax prefers to increase Antony’s value.
