Newcastle United join the race to sign Manchester United target Victor Osimhen

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Newcastle United has joined Manchester United in the pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen after securing Champions League qualification.

Osimhen, who has had an impressive season with Napoli, scoring 28 goals and providing five assists in 37 appearances, has attracted interest from several top clubs.

The Red Devils, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are already keen on signing the 24-year-old poacher. However, Newcastle United, under Eddie Howe’s management, has emerged as a fresh competitor in the race to sign the talented centre-forward.

With their Champions League qualification, Newcastle has reportedly set higher transfer targets and aims to make a big-money move for Osimhen this summer. On the other hand, United has prioritized Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as their main target but faces uncertainty regarding his potential transfer.

Tottenham may be hesitant to sell Kane to a direct Premier League rival like United, potentially preferring to transfer him to an overseas club such as Real Madrid, who have shown interest in the player.

In the event that the Red Devils fail to secure Kane, Osimhen could serve as a backup option for them in the upcoming transfer window. It is suggested that United should not let the Nigerian striker slip away to Newcastle United, as the Magpies have ambitious plans under their new Saudi owners.

While Newcastle has returned to the Champions League after a two-decade absence, United remains an attractive destination for any striker due to its financial prowess. However, the primary concern is whether they can meet the asking price for Osimhen.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis could demand an astounding €160 million for Osimhen’s transfer this summer, which may pose a challenge for Ten Hag’s side unless they generate funds through player sales.

Additionally, United has plans to strengthen other key positions, and a potential takeover could impact its transfer strategy.
