An update has been received on Newcastle United target Dean Henderson’s future at his current club.
What’s all the fuss about?
The Red Devils are willing to let the shot-stopper go on an 18-month loan, according to The Sun, in order to prevent him from wasting his career on the bench at Old Trafford.
Newcastle is apparently interested in a January swoop for the England international as they aim to bolster their squad in the forthcoming transfer window, and United has now opened the door to a possible transfer.
Following this update on United’s plans for Henderson, newly appointed manager Eddie Howe must authorize a Newcastle deal to sign him, as it might be a smart move for the club going forward.
Given the Magpies’ current goalkeeping issue, an 18-month loan could be the best solution. At St. James’ Park, Freddie Woodman, Martin Dubravka, and Karl Darlow are all still on the books, and having Henderson on loan for 18 months would give the club enough time to sell one or two of them to bankroll a permanent move for the young Englishman.

If he impresses enough in the next year and a half, Newcastle might sign him on a permanent basis with funds raised from the probable sales of Woodman, Darlow, and/or Dubravka. They might have four permanent goalkeepers at the club at the same time if they paid for Henderson in full instead of bringing him in on loan.
This could produce problems in terms of economics as well as the mood in the training field. Newcastle can terminate his loan agreement if they are unable to find suitable replacements or if his arrival gets the best out of one of the club’s three goalkeepers.
In terms of his ability, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer had praised the £120k-per-week beast, placing him in his Premier League Team of the Season following his loan time at Sheffield United.
This shows that he has the ability to come in and be a success on the field while also contributing financially to the club, as he pleased Shearer enough for him to be named the best goalie in the 2019/20 season.
As a result, Howe needs to make sure he can get a loan move for Henderson when the January transfer market starts in less than two months.
