Nicky Butt has decided to leave Manchester United in search of a new challenge in the world of football.
It was reported on Wednesday that former Manchester United midfielder Butt has ventured down as the club’s head of first-team development to seek after “another coaching challenge”.
The previous England ace, who played 387 games for United between the years of 1992 to 2004, was positioned to the Head of Academy two years prior and announced straightforwardly to chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Nicky Butt said to the club’s official website: “Having come through the academy myself to play almost 400 games for Manchester United, it has been an absolute privilege to come back and work with a new generation of talent making that same journey. I’m proud of the role everyone on the staff plays in giving our young footballers the best possible chance of fulfilling their potential, and the results are clear to see in the increased number of homegrown players reaching the first team. I already know from my playing days how difficult it is to leave Manchester United, but it feels like the right moment for a new professional challenge and I look forward to exploring opportunities that build on the great experiences I’ve had here over the past nine years.”
Recently United reformed their coaching set-up with John Murtough selected as the new Director of Football with the previous midfielder Darren Fletcher elevated to being the new Technical Director.
The Athletic says those advancements have added to Butt’s abrupt flight and reason for departure. The arrangement of Murtough as United’s football chief and the manner in which it was dealt with was a factor in Butt leaving the club. Sources say the pair were polar opposite, with alternate points of view of football, and Butt was hesitant to work under Murtough’s stewardship.
