Official: Angel Gomes has joined Ligue 1 outfit LOSC Lille on a five-year deal

Ex-Manchester United FC youth academy graduate Angel Gomes has joined Ligue 1 outfit LOSC Lille on a five-year deal. However, Gomes will be spending the upcoming 2020-21 season on loan at Portuguese side Boavista.

The 19-year English starlet had chosen to leave Old Trafford following his contract’s expiry at the end of June. The Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been unable to tie down Gomes to fresh terms that would have extended his stay at his boyhood side.

Following his exit from Manchester United FC this summer, Gomes had courted interest from several top clubs across Europe. Reports had suggested that Chelsea had been interested in making a move for the player, however, talks did not materialize between the two parties.

The attacking midfielder had been an emerging force within the Manchester United FC ranks as witnessed by his showings for the club at the youth level. The 19-year old had performed in a consistent manner for his side during the 2019-20 Premier League 2 season. He had made eight first-team outings for Solskjaer’s side, including three in the UEFA Europa League.

The capture of Gomes, an England U-20 international, was announced by LOSC Lille through a post on their Twitter profile. Signing the young playmaker is a major statement made by the French club who had just recently sanctioned the €80 million worth sale of attacking star Victor Osimhen to Napoli.
