Old Trafford set for refurbishment once the United takeover is confirmed

As stated by the Manchester Evening News, the Glazer family’s resolution of the strategic review of Manchester United will determine the refurbishment of offices at Old Trafford.

Maris Interiors has reportedly secured a contract to modernize the workspaces at the stadium, but the agreement depends upon clarity regarding the club’s ownership.

Populous, the stadium master planners, are also awaiting a decision, as they presented plans for a redesign or rebuild of Old Trafford last year.

The stadium, currently accommodating 76,000 spectators, has not undergone expansion since the installation of the northwest and northeast quadrants in 2006, which were approved in February 2004.

Recent years have seen criticism directed towards the facilities at Old Trafford, the largest club stadium in Britain. Issues such as roof leaks and an overflowing men’s toilet have been reported.

However, certain improvements have been made, including the redecoration of the press room in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand in March 2019, and the introduction of new facilities for disabled access in the Stretford End in 2021.

The home and away dressing rooms were also upgraded two years ago, and the exterior of the stadium received a fresh coat of scarlet red paint last summer after the previous colour had faded to a claret hue.

Despite these efforts, Old Trafford was not included in the list of stadiums for the UK and Ireland’s bid to co-host the European Championship in 2028.

The omission was a result of ongoing planning for the stadium’s refurbishment, which made it difficult to provide guarantees regarding its availability for the event.
