As reported by The Guardian, Solskjaer has finally accepted the fact that his team is lacking the cutting edge in attack and have been looking vulnerable on counter-attacks.
This is the truth that has been haunting the team just not in a single game but a host of games over the past few weeks. Manchester United’s draw against Everton was a sign that the team is still lacking in this aspect.
Everton was able to cut open our defence at will and United’s defenders and midfielders were pretty slow while tracking back. One common example is that of Fred who was brushed aside by Demarai Gray twice during the build-up to Andros Townsend’s goal.
Solskjaer was asked about the team’s performance to which he replied:
“I thought we started well, had good energy created some good openings, and scored a fantastic goal. Coming into half-time 1-0, you’re pleased. Second half we lacked the cutting edge to get the second which is vital in a game like this. From a corner, which we have, you concede five seconds later so that was a disappointment”.
“No, we weren’t too open, we had enough players behind the ball. But we didn’t deal with the tackles when we should have. We didn’t regroup and reorganize well enough.”
Solskjaer should accept this fact and his players should improve on this aspect as they face a host of difficult games in the coming months.
Opponents like Leicester City, Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal await them and such defensive frailties would be a disaster against them.
