Manchester United wasted little time in erasing the memory of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s three-year reign at Old Trafford just three days after he was fired.
As reported by the Daily Star, the day following United’s Champions League victory against Villarreal, a massive mural of the Norwegian was quickly removed from the Sir Matt Busby stand.
Throughout his career, Solskjaer was a famous figure, with some fans supporting him to the end and others believing he should have been fired long ago.
He was fired after a run of five Premier League defeats in seven games, with a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Watford being the final straw. In a moving gesture, Solskjaer’s hometown of Kristiansund displayed a ’20 Legend’ sign in his honour, demonstrating their support for their hero.
Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager for United’s game against Villarreal which they subsequently won.
But now, United has signed a new interim manager Ralf Rangnick on a six-month deal. Various candidates were selected but based on interviews and discussions, it was decided that the German tactician will be the best to take charge. He has also agreed to take the two years consultancy role at Old Trafford after the season ends.
The new era of Manchester United has now started and the signing of the German manager is the first step towards our progress.
