Manchester United’s first signing in the summer transfer window and arguably the summer’s best signing was Donny Van de Beek. The Dutch international was thought to bring more creativity and depth to the Manchester United squad because of his game style and versatility. But after last night’s Chelsea game, former United captain Patrice Evra, in the studio of Sky Sports, questioned the very reason of the Red Devils signing Van de Beek.
Donny Van de Beek is yet to make his first start in the Premier League, after his transfer this summer. The Dutchman has done very well in his few appearances for the Red Devils and has even scored on his debut. Looking at the game last night, Van de Beek would have been perfect for last night’s game where midfielders didn’t get enough space and needed to move the ball quickly.
Patrice Evra said: “We’re talking about Van de Beek, nothing against the kid, but why have we bought him? He’s watching the game from the stand every game. We don’t need him, that’s the truth.”
Later in the game, the quality of Van de Beek would have been pivotal for Manchester United as Chelsea sat back deep in their half. He was seen in the dying minutes of the game in the stands, and his face showed his displeasure and dissatisfaction.
