Former Manchester United player Paul McGrath has spoken about how Everton was able to overpower United on their own turf. The area that they exploited was United’s slowly retracting defence.
It was no secret that players like Demarai Gray, Doucouré, Townsend were all able to make quick runs into our box. They made numerous attempts and finally got their reward in the 65th minute when Gray got the better of Fred and passed it on to Doucouré who was not at all marked by the United defenders.
He easily slotted the pass to Townsend and the winger struck the ball past David De Gea. It was not the only moment where Everton got the better of us.

In the second half, they were given open chances. Tom Davies was also given a big chance to score after being kept unmarked but the playmaker resisted from shooting and passed it on to Yerry Mina who was offside. Paul McGrath has exposed this weakness that United is currently dwelling on.
While writing his views for Sunday World, he said:
“You have to worry about Manchester United when the best player in their last two games has been goalkeeper David de Gea. He has made big saves against Villarreal and Everton and the Spaniard is not getting the credit he deserves for it because of the phenomenon at the other end of the pitch.”
“I’ll come back to Cristiano Ronaldo in a minute, but first I have to look back on another 90 minutes of disappointment at Old Trafford yesterday, where United was a curate’s egg. We had good defending and great blocks from Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof, as well as de Gea’s saves, but despite all that Everton ran through United almost at will at times.”
Manchester United’s next game comes up after the international break and it gives them the perfect chance to work on their weaknesses.
