Paul Pogba has explained his decision to return to Juventus and acknowledged that his second stint at Manchester United did not go as expected.
The French midfielder won the World Cup while playing for the Red Devils, but he also battled with fitness and form at the club level.
He eventually left Old Trafford as a free agent in the summer of 2022, raising severe concerns about his value to the team. Pogba was unable to win over the United supporters due to his inconsistent performances.
The 29-year-old admits that he didn’t live up to expectations but is desperate to find his spark again in Turin, where he first found fame after becoming the most expensive player in the world after returning to England for £89 million ($97m) in 2016.
As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Pogba said:
“My heart made a choice, it was the right moment to return [Juventus]. The last three years in Manchester did not go as I wanted. This is no secret. I was affected by injuries. A return to Juventus was a great challenge for the club and me. I learned a lot at Manchester United and now I am a different player. I must take more responsibility.”
Pogba is yet to make his second competitive debut for the Italian giants because of a preseason knee injury that required surgery and an over-extended recovery period. This has briefly threatened to keep him out of France’s plans for the 2022 World Cup.
The French midfielder is still working his way back to full health, and since his brother’s accusations are causing an uncomfortable distraction off the field, he will be keen to return to the field as soon as possible.
