Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has given the club a bit of an injury scare after suffering a problem with his back but United expect their talisman to be fit for the season opener.
The Red Devils have quite a tough start to the Premier League as they host fierce rivals Chelsea on the opening day of the season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to have all of his players fit and firing for the first game of the season.
Despite the transfer speculation surrounding World Cup-winning French midfielder Paul Pogba amid interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid. The 26-year-old suffered a back spasm while training for the preseason on Friday but is expected to be fit for Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Chelsea, though he will miss Saturday’s International Champions Cup clash with AC Milan.
The red half of Manchester will face the Serie A outfit Milan in their final ICC match as the only side who can knock Portuguese club Benfica off the top of the table in the pre-season tournament, though the Red Devils need to win by three goals or more to lift the trophy before the actual season begins.
However, Solskjaer will have to make do without Pogba, who, after his strong pre-season displays despite angling for a move. The Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed Pogba will sit out United’s final pre-season match but is confident the clubs top scorer last season will be back in top condition within a few days.
While speaking to the club’s official website, the 46 year old said, “At the end of the session today [Friday], Paul got a back spasm, It’s the same issue he had last week, when he missed the session in Norway, but I think he’ll be available early next week.”
Manchester United will welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Old Trafford on 11st August to kick start their 2019-20 season.
