Manchester United star man Paul Pogba has been replaced by Arsenal ace Matteo Guendouzi in the latest France squad for the 2020 European Championship qualifiers against Albania and Andorra on 7th and 10th September respectively.
The 26-year-old picked up an ankle injury and was seen limping out of the 1-1 draw against Southampton last Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sweating on Pogba’s fitness with United getting off to their worst start to a premier league season in 25 years, with only one win in the first four premier league games.
It has not been revealed how long Pogba will be sidelined for but may potentially miss United’s home game against in-form Leicester City.
Ole recently said in an interview “He twisted his ankle, I think, but he’ll go away and hopefully it’s not too bad and he can play for France because I know how much he loves his country and playing for them.”
Fred and Nemanja Matic might be the contenders to replace Pogba if he does not pass fit for the clash against Leicester. United have relied on Paul Pogba to provide the creative spark in the final third this season and he will be a huge miss if he does not get fit particularly with both Fred and Matic known for their work rate rather then their creativity.
For Guendouzi this represents another huge step since making his Arsenal debut last season.
Explaining how he found out about the call-up, Guendouzi said: “I was having an afternoon nap… In my head, I was like wow, I didn’t believe it initially because 10 minutes earlier I was sleeping.
“I thought I was still in a dream…This is extraordinary.”
