Manchester United star Paul Pogba has revealed that he wants to contribute more in attack and would love to play more offensively.
Pogba said that he loves the way he plays for France and even his former team Juventus because he has more power to run forward. He doesn’t like to sit deep and defend. He has probably given a message to Solksjaer that he would love to score 15 goals or more if he is given the freedom to attack.
As reported by Manchester Evening News, Paul Pogba said: “It’s true that at Juve it was different from Manchester United. We were already playing with three midfielders [at Juve], in 5-3-2. I had the freedom, I had to be in the box, to attack. It was an obligation. In Manchester, I have the freedom to go into the box, but the priority is to play and defend. We [France] play in 4-2-3-1, also a diamond. I am a little more in the transmission, in the construction. But I have more freedom than in Manchester to enter the box, to make runs forwards. At the same time, when you have Griezmann, Kylian, you don’t want to enter their spaces, you don’t need to. I would like to play more offensively. To score fifteen goals per season is what I would like. But Patrick said it, we must put ourselves at the service of the collective. In Manchester, as in blue, the collective will always come before the player.”
United’s current formation doesn’t give Pogba such space to move forward, rather it lets him defend deep with either Fred or McTominay. Solksjaer always had the fear of changing the formation. He would rather keep two defensive midfielders because his defenders are too slow and they need cover.
But such tactics are actually limiting Pogba and United are not able to extract the player’s special abilities. As we see him play for France, he has been phenomenal and that’s because he has more freedom to run and attack.
The French midfielder’s current contract terminates next season, which has fueled some sections of the media that he is ready to leave next season.
Man United obviously doesn’t want the player to leave for free but we think that Solksjaer knows the importance of the player. Pogba is certainly in his plans and we expect United to offer him a new contract.
