Manchester United star Paul Pogba has been ruled out of the Europa League clash against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on Thursday and now faces a spell on the sidelines.
The 26-year-old suffered the injury during August’s 1-1 draw against Southampton which caused him to miss France’s international fixtures as well as three United matches in September.
Pogba made a return from injury in the 1-1 draw with Rochdale in the Carabao Cup, playing the full 90 minutes before doing so again in Monday’s stalemate with Arsenal in the Premier League.
The club has now announced that Pogba has not fully recovered and will now be treated on the sidelines.
A club statement read: ‘Following a specialist’s opinion, Paul Pogba requires a period of further rest and conservative treatment for the foot injury he sustained during the game against Southampton in August. ‘Updates will follow in due course.’
Pogba’s injury will come as a huge blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is under pressure after a run of poor results which saw them make their worst start to a season since 1989.
United’s midfield has been devoid of creativity and there has been a reliance on the French International to provide a spark in the final third of the field, which Pogba has provided at times but has failed to do so on a consistent basis since rejoining the club from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
Solskjaer will hope to have Pogba fit for the Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.
