Manchester United were desperate to sign a centre-forward in the summer transfer window, mainly because of Anthony Martial’s inconsistencies. Though the Red Devils have signed Edinson Cavani no one really believes he is the answer to United’s issues. In his latest talk with Stadium Astro, Scholes has again reinstated the fact that Manchester United need a proper centre-forward for the team to succeed.
At 33-years of age, Edinson Cavani is in the twilight of his career and not a lot will be expected of him, even though he has a knack of scoring goals. Anthony Martial has had a terrible start to the season, as he now serves a suspension for three games due to his red card against Tottenham. And this isn’t the first time the pundit has said that United need to sign a proper centre-forward.
In his latest talk, Scholes said: “The problem with United’s forwards is that none of them is an actual centre-forward. Martial almost conned us into thinking he was one at the end of last season because he scored so many goals and was quite good.” The Frenchman has been under the firing line yet again after a poor start to the season.
Manchester United will hope that one of Anthony Martial or Edinson Cavani comes good this season, as the Red Devils need goals from them. Not signing Romelu Lukaku’s replacement has come back to haunt Manchester United and the sooner they get their act together the better it is.
